Headline Haitians Protest Government at National Palace
Caption Description Local police fire tear gas at a group of approximately 70 rock-throwing protesters in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The protesters took to the gates of the National Palace to demand that Haitian President René Préval step down from office today, 7 February, the constitutionally-decreed end date for a presidential term. Emergency measures, however, have been voted in to extend Mr. Préval’s presidency to May 2011 when an elected successor will be able to take office.
