Secretary-General Hears Mother of Argentinean "Desparecido" Tell Story
Caption Description
On of the "Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo" (Madres de Plaza de Mayo) shares her testimony about her son, one of the victims known as “desaparecidos” (disappeared) of the military government that ruled Argentina through the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, during a visit by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the Center for the Promotion of Human Rights, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Center was formerly the notorious government detention facility, Escuela Superior de Mecánica de la Armada (ESMA).
The Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo is an Argentine human rights association formed in response to the National Reorganization Process, during the military dictatorship by Jorge Rafael Videla, with the goal of finding the desaparecidos, and then determining those responsible of crimes against humanity and to promote their trial and sentencing.
