At High Level Meeting on Happiness, a Call for New Economic Paradigm
Caption Description
A high level discussion on “Happiness and Well-being: Defining a New Economic Paradigm,” organized by the Government of Bhutan, was held at United Nations Headquarters today. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon addresses representatives of governments, religious organizations, academia and civil society at the meeting. “Gross National Product (GDP) has long been the yardstick by which economies and politicians have been measured. Yet it fails to take into account the social and environmental costs of so-called progress,” he remarked.
On stage, from left to right, are: Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, President of the sixty-sixth session of the General Assembly; Mr. Ban; and Lyonchoen Jigmi Yoezer Thinley, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bhutan.
