Austria Signs Slavery Convention
Caption Description
Dr. Heinrich Haymerle, Permanent Observer of Austria to the United Nations, signs, subject to ratification by the Austrian Parliament, a Protocol adopted by the current General Assembly, which formally transfers to the U.N. the functions and powers exercised by the League of Nations under the Slavery Convention of 1926. This Protocol makes the Secretary-General of the U.N. the official custodian of the Slavery Convention and channels to him the reports of governments on measures taken by them to eradicate any remnants of slavery that may exist.
Standing at right is Mr. Anthony Leriche, of the U.N. Legal Department.
