Portrait of Sir Patrick Dean, who succeeds Sir Pierson Dixon as United Kingdom Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Sir Patrick has been a Deputy Under-Secretary of State in the Foreign Office since 1956. During recent years he has been concerned with liaison work between the Foreign Office, the Ministry of Defense and the Chiefs of Staff Committee and has also dealt with defense problems connected with atomic energy. He has also travelled overseas on important occasions; he accompanied the Prime Minister when in October 1957, the latter visited the U.S. with President Eisenhower; and the following spring he went with Mr. Macmillan and Mr. Selwyn Lloyd, the Foreign Secretary, on their-visit to Moscow.
