Columbia Ratifies Convention on Status of Refugees on “Fridtjof Nansen Day”
Caption Description
In a brief ceremony at United Nations Headquarters today, Columbia became the twenty-ninth country to ratify or accede to the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees.
Here, German Zea (second from left), Permanent Representative of Columbia to the U.N., is seen as he presents his country’s instrument of ratification to Constantin A. Stavropoulos (left), U.N. Legal Counsel, in the presence of Alberto Gonzales Fernandez (centre), a member of Colombia’s delegation to the sixteenth session of the General Assembly; Francisco Urrutia Holguin, Representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Latin America; and Aline Cohn, the High Commissioner’s Representative in the United States. Mr. Zea emphasized that the action was being taken on a day when many countries were celebrating the centennial of the birth of Fridtjof Nansen.
