Headline United Nations Gardens
Caption Description More than three-fourth of the United Nations site is devoted to gardens. Tons of topsoil and fertilizer were brought to the landscaped areas of the site to provide a planting place for the many varieties of trees, shrubs and flowers.  Some 2,000 prizewinning rose-bushes, 185 flowering cherry trees, 52 dwarf fruit trees, as well as a fine group of hawthorns, sweet gum, pin cake, sycamores and honey locust trees, have helped to transform the area from stone and steel to a green garden.  Lining the macadam walk are ilex, myrtle, wisteria, rambler roses and a ground cover of English ivy and grass.  Much of the plantings were donated by groups or individuals.
