International Coffee Agreement Signed at UN Headquarters
Caption Description
A total of 54 countries have to date signed a new international agreement designed to increase the purchasing power of coffee-exporting countries by keeping prices at equitable levels and by increasing consumption. The Agreement, the first of its kind for this commodity, was drawn up during a seven week session at UN Headquarters in July and August and attended by representatives of 71 countries. The 5-year Agreement was expected to go into effect provisionally on 1 October 1962.
Seen here signing the Agreement for the Netherlands is Ambassador C.W.A. Schurmann. Standing behind is Mr. H. T Schaapveld; and Mr. A. Leriche, Treaty Section Chief of the Office of Legal Affairs.
