Israel Pledge to Halt Work on Disputed Jordan-Canal
Caption Description
Israel, through a statement in the Security Council, has agreed to halt work on the contested hydro-electric canal on the Syrian border pending a decision by the Council on the matter. The announcement was made after Pakistan had proposed that the Council request Israel to cease work on the canal while the question was being discussed.
Before the meeting, Mr. Charles Malik (left), Chairman of the Lebanese delegation to the Assembly, conversing informally with Mr. Mohammad Zafrulla Khan, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Pakistan. Seated behind them are Mr. Edward A. Rizk and Viqar Ahmed Hamdani, of the Lebanese and Pakistani delegations.
