Hungarian Refugees in Yugoslavia
Caption Description
Out of the 187,830 Hungarians who left their country since last October, 17,087 took refuge in Yugoslavia. Of those, at the beginning of the month, 237 had been resettled and 976 had returned to Hungary. Yugoslavia is therefore still providing accommodations, care and maintenance for 15, 874 refugees.
Yugoslavia housed many of the refugees in the hotels of the well-known sea-side resort of Crkvenica, on the Adriatic (this photo shows Hungarian children dancing in the grader of the Hotel Terpija) but these hotels will have to be vacated by the refuges for the tourist season and it will be necessary for this Yugoslavia authorities to build at least two large camps to accommodate about 10,000 persons. The cost of such camps is estimated at more than $4,000,000.
