Headline Dairy Industry in Costa Rica
Caption Description The Dos Pinos milk cooperative in San José has not only become the center of a growing dairy industry in Costa Rica, but is contributing to the solution of nutritional problems throughout the country. Here surplus milk is dried, whole milk is pasteurized and marketed, cheese and butter produced, and ice-cream is sold from a modern soda fountain in the front yard of the milk plant. A World Bank loan helped provide the buildings for the machinery, UNICEF helped equip a milk drying plant, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has given technical advice on nutrition and dairying.
Here, finished cheese is being put in cold storage. [No exact date]
