Guatemala School of Social Work
Caption Description
Technical assistance by the United Nations helped to organize the Guatemala School of Social Work, opened in 1949. This school provides training for the social workers needed for the various social welfare programs launched in Guatemala since 1944. The two-year course combines classroom teaching with actual field work under competent supervision. U.N. experts have been supplied to the school since 1949 to assist in the training of the student body. In 1949, 132 applications were received for admission to the school; 32 outstanding applicants were accepted, on the basis of previous education, personal interviews, and intelligence and aptitude tests.
Here, an Indigenous girl brings her younger brother to the Centro Educativo Asistencial (Educational center for assistance to orphans) to enroll him and is interviewed by one of the student social workers assigned to the Asistencial for field studies. [No exact date]
