German Federal Republic Ratifies Convention on Abolition of Slavery
Caption Description
The Federal Republic of Germany today became the 25th country to ratify or accede to the 1956 international convention on the abolition of slavery. The convention, which came into force on 30 April 1957, covers not only the abolition of slavery and the slave trade, but also institutions and practices similar to slavery.
Dr. Werner Dankwort (right) Permanent Observer of the German Federal Republic to the United Nations, is seen here after the brief ceremony in which he deposited his country's instrument of ratification in the office of Mr. Constantin A. Stavropoulos (seen at left), United Nations Legal Counsel.
