Headline Better Roads in Greece
Caption Description In a few years, Greece has made remarkable progress in road modernization and improvement.  Out of a total of 9,000 km. of roads negotiable by car (less than 3,400 km. of them main roads) about half are macadamized, compared to 30% before the war.  The promotion of tourism was one of the main factors which contributed to this rapid amelioration.
Shown here are international-type road signs on a Greek road (these two signs warn motorists of the proximity of a custom-station).  World-wide use of such signs and signals has been recommended by the U.N.
