Headline Ecuador Accepts Three UN Conventions
Caption Description Ecuador today accepted three United Nations conventions—relating to refugees, slavery, and the control of opium.  This picture, taken during the brief ceremony, shows (left to right):  Constantin Stavropoulos, Legal Counsel of the UN; Gonzalo Apunte, of the Ecuadorean delegation; and G. Boisseau, of the UN Office of Legal Affairs.  Ecuador became the 15th state party to the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees; the 24th state party to the Protocol transferring to the United Nations the functions and powers formerly exercised by the League of Nations under the Slavery Convention of 1926; and the 15th state party to the Protocol for Limiting and Regulating the Cultivation of the Poppy Plant, the Production of, International and Wholesale Trade in, and Use of Opium.
