New programme for Training Students in United Nations Work
Caption Description
A new programme for training university students in the work of the U.N. was launched last August. Under this plan, some 20 intern students -- from as many countries -- are now spending a year at U.N. Headquarters, of which they will serve part of their time as guides in the U.N. visitor’s service. The programme has been planned also along scholarship lines; for this purpose the interns are assisted by senior staff members, in the capacity of tutors, and they attend an extensive course of lectures and seminars. After spending the first ten weeks of their stay with the guided tour, the internes alternate their duties as guides with their studies.
This picture shows three members of the group of internes now at Headquarters studying a United Nations document. They are, from left to right, Miss Sudha Adige, from India; Miss Laila Faris, from Lebanon; and Miss Surayia Omar, from Pakistan. [No exact date]
