Headline Housing Resettlement in Southern Italy
Caption Description Twenty thousand people in the little town of Matera in southern Italy are still living in ""sassi"", which are little more than caves dug out of the rock. These people are slowly being resettled, whenever they accept to leave their troglodytic habitations. Modern apartment houses are being built for the non rural families. A number of farm workers' families are being resettled in the nearby land reform community of La Martella, now under construction.
Here is an aerial view of La Martella.
