Headline The Advanced Gas-Cooled Reactor (A.G.R.)
Caption Description The Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor (A.G.R.) at Windscale, United Kingdom, represents a big advance in the development of the gas-cooled graphite moderated reactor. Uranium oxide fuel and stainless steel cans are used to permit operation at a gas outlet temperature over 200 degrees higher than the one at Calder Hall.

A view is shown of the pile cap with the charge/discharge machine in the background. The heat exchangers can be seen on either side of the picture.
