Large tracts of land in the Sind Desert Region are extremely difficult to cultivate. Reason: salt accumulation caused by defective irrigation and drainage, the Sind Barrage, now under construction, is planned to remedy this. It will be one of the world?s largest irrigation schemes when completed. FAO has supplied soil salinity and irrigation experts to help in this undertaking.
