Farming for Development: Institute of Agricultural Research in Afghanistan
Caption Description
A Koochi shepherd with one of his goats at a vaccination camp near
Argandab. A large proportion of the potential animal production in Afghanistan is lost each year due to enzootic and epizootic diseases. With help from the Food and Agriculture Organization under the UN Development Programme, the Government has established an animal health clinic at Kandahar to provide veterinary services for the area. During a period of nine months, over 71,000 vaccinations have been performed against anthrax, 48,000 against sheep-pox, 4,000 against goat-pox and over 26,000 sheep have been treated against parasitic diseases.
