New Homes for Refugee Farmers in Greece
Caption Description
Increasing numbers of refugee farming families are being settled in the village of Vigla, erected by the Greek Government in September 1957, with the support of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The village, which started with some 48 homes and the land assigned to each family for farming, has expanded considerably. It now boasts, among other things, a permanent community centre where refugees are trained in sewing, weaving, carpentry, shoe-making and iron work. Sixty additional homes have just been completed in the village.
Members of a refugee family look out from the window of their new home in Vigla.
