Brazil's Forestry School a Vital Spur to Industry
Caption Description
The National Forestry School at Curitiba, Parana, now completed, has established itself as a vital spur to the nation's timber industry. The school was built by the Brazilian Government with the assistance of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and with the FAO as the executing agency. Lack of trained personnel in forestry has been a serious obstacle in the development and conservation of the country's forests. The school, located about 300 miles north of Brasilia, gives training in agriculture, veterinary medicine, home economics and related fields. It is the second of two such schools in Brazil.
The research statics of the school at Rio Negro, Parana, began a seed orchard for Parana pine. It was later to develop a successful technique of grafting this pine. This, in turn will result in the production of high quality seeds. [1969]
