Farming for Development: Bolivia
Caption Description
For some time to come the poorer countries of the world will have to
rely on agriculture to raise their living standards and supply the capital they need to create industries. Agricultural production must therefore be increased. This requires tractors, fertilizers, new and better seeds, vast irrigation schemes, land reforms. In 1976 the World Bank approved a loan for an integrated rural development project on the Altiplano in Bolivia. Its principal objective is to raise the standard of living of farmers’ families by increasing productivity and providing complementary infrastructure and social services for all rural families living in the area. 70%of the working population of Bolivia is engaged in agriculture (potatoes, grain, alfalfa, coffee, fruit, cotton, etc.)
