Headline Telecommunications in Pakistan
Caption Description Mr. Santiago Quijano-Caballero (Colombia) is a radio communication expert sent to Pakistan in 1951 under the auspices of the U.N. Technical Assistance Programme.
Two years ago he devised a plan for the expansion of the Pakistani radio communications system, providing for the installation of five new transmitters and fourteen receiving sets in the four major communications centers of the country, as well as the creation of additional circuits for the maritime mobile radio service and communications between Pakistan and the other countries. During 1954 and early this year, Mr. Quijano helped in the selection of sites for the new stations and supervised their construction. This picture was taken in a shop he set up right in his office at the Ministry of Communications to train the needed personnel and to repair and maintain the U.N. telecommunication equipment which will be installed in these stations. Most of that equipment was purchased in Australia under the British Colombo Plan.
Here Mr. Quijano-Caballero watches the work of a Pakistani technician. [Exact date unknown]
