Secretary-General Trygve Lie (left), presents “first day covers” bearing the first commemorative stamp issued in honor of that day, to (l. to r.) Mr. G.M. Bragalini, Acting Postmaster of New York City; Ambassador Warren Austin, Permanent Representative of the United States to the U.N.; and Mr. Lester B. Pearson, of Canada, President of the seventh session of the General Assembly. (The stamp bears the design of the veterans' War Memorial Building in San Francisco, where the U.N.
