The United Nations General Assembly Building
Caption Description
The last of the three main structures that make up the U.N. permanent Headquarters -the General Assembly building-is now nearing completion and will be ready for the opening of the seventh session of the Assembly when it convenes, on 14 October.
The main public entrance to United Nations Headquarters will be at the north end of the General Assembly building (shown here).
Here the exterior is faced with translucent glass set between marble columns. Visitors will pass through seven nickel plated doors donated by the Canadian Government. On the exterior of each door are four panels in bas-relief symbolising peace, justice, truth and fraternity. The seven doors are worth 5,000.
