Caption Description Crippled by poverty, lack of education and training opportunities, millions of women across the world are locked into a life-style of unskilled, underproductive and unpaid labor. The Voluntary Fuld for the United Nations Decade for Women supports projects in developing countries that help women to learn skills enabling them to become self-reliant.
In Bangladesh the Voluntary Fund has supported six training centers, run by a non-profit, voluntary organization, Concern, where destitute, illiterate women are instructed in various crafts. Free health care, education and some food are also provided for the women and their children. Upon completion of their training the women receive a modest loan ($20) to start their own business.
