Headline UNMISS Formed Police Unit Provides Protection in Juba
Caption Description A member of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) from Rwanda, serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), provides support as United Nations police officers specializing in gender, child and vulnerable people protection, meet with women suffering from domestic violence and health issues in the Protection of Civilians site in Juba, South Sudan. The Rwandan FPU3 team consists of 160 members, of whom 50% are women. The female police officers are proud to be serving the people of South Sudan and say their presence makes it easier for local women who have been displaced by conflict to speak out about the personal challenges they face as well as empowering them to achieve their own dreams.
