For some time to come the poorer countries of the world will have to rely on agriculture to raise their living standards and supply the capital they need to create industries. Agricultural production must therefore be increased. This requires tractors, fertilizers, new and better seeds, vast irrigation schemes, land reforms.

Headline The Expanded Nutrition Programme in Orissa (India) 
Caption Description "In 1959, the Planning and Cooperation Department together with the Departments of Health, Agriculture and Education set up a programme to improve the diet of the villages in Orissa, India. The Government enlisted the aid of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for what was called ""The Expanded Nutrition Program"" which has since become a model for what can be done in the field.
