A view of the bust of Count Folke Bernadotte of Sweden who was the United Nations Mediator on Palestine, during the wreath-laying ceremony of Secretary-General on the occasion of International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers 2025 (29 May). In the background is Cheryl Pearce (left), Deputy Military Adviser of the Office of Military Affairs of Department of Peace Operations, and Faisal Shahkar, United Nations Police Adviser.

Observed under the theme “The Future of Peacekeeping” this year’s International Day looks at the invaluable contributions military, police and civilian peacekeepers have made over the last nearly eight decades. It encapsulates the spirit of progress and collective action towards creating a more equal, just and sustainable world. Today, more than 68,000 civilians, military, and police personnel serve in 11 UN peacekeeping missions, confronting increasingly complex and interconnected challenges shaped by a shifting geopolitical landscape. Despite the challenges, peacekeepers remain steadfast in their pursuit of peace.

Headline Survivors, Victims and Perpetrators Exhibit at UNHQ
Caption Description The exhibition ""Survivors, Victims and Perpetrators” commemorates the victims and honours the survivors of the Holocaust. One section focuses on the Wannsee Conference, its participants and the Nazi persecution policies that led to the deportations of Jews from all over Europe and their subsequent murder.  The other section features striking photographic portraits of Holocaust survivors to illustrate the human dimension of suffering that lies behind the bleak statistics.
The two part exhibition pays tribute to the Holocaust survivors while shedding light on the Wannsee Conference and its larger historical implications.
The exhibition is organized by the House of the Wannsee Conference Memorial and Educational Site and the “Lest We Forget” arts and remembrance project, with support from the Permanent Mission of Germany to the UN, in collaboration with the Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme.
