Headline African Institute for Economic Development and Planning in Senegal

Caption Description The African Institute for Economic Development and Planning was established in Dakar, Senegal, in 1963 under the auspices of the Economic Commission for Africa, to serve as an international centre for the study of African development problems. The Institute also serves as a centre for training specialists and senior officials of government agencies responsible for economic planning. Its role is not to compete with or duplicate the work of universities in Africa or abroad but to focus on practical training. The UN Development Programme with the UN as executing agency assisted in establishing the Institute which is the third of its kind. The other two are in Santiago, Chile (Latin American Institute) and Bangkok, Thailand (Asian Institute). UNESCO, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Health Organization (WHO) also provided assistance.
