Headline
Protocol Signed with New Specialized Agency Dealing with Intellectual Property
Caption Description
The heads of the United Nations and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) signed a Protocol in New York today concerning an agreement between the two organizations which made WIPO the fourteenth specialized agency of the United Nations. The agreement came into force on 17 December 1974 upon its approval by the General Assembly. WIPO was set up in 1967 to protect rights arising from intellectual activities in the industrial, scientific, literary and artistic fields. It seeks to protect rights relating to such things as patents, trademarks, industrial designs, phonograph and tape recordings, artistic performances and scientific discoveries.
