Security Council Takes Up Angolan Complaint against South Africa’s Military Moves into Angolan Territory
Caption Description
The Security Council this afternoon took up Angola’s complaint concerning “the worsening military situation” in the south of that country “created by the progressive moves by the South African military units further north into Angolan territory…” At the meeting’s conclusion, a draft resolution sponsored by eight non-aligned Council members was circulated which, among other things, would have the Council demand South Africa “cease immediately all bombings and other acts of aggression and unconditionally withdraw forthwith all its military forces occupying Angolan territory…”
Security Council President Javier Chamorro Mora (Nicaragua), right, confers with Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar before the start of the meeting.
