Peace doves fly on the grounds of the historic Hazrat-i-Ali mosque, in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan. The doves are part of a campaign launched by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in observance of the International Day of Peace.

Mbyo Village is a reconciliation village, established as part of Rwanda's "Unity and Reconciliation" initiative to foster national unity and collective progress. These villages represent one of several projects initiated by the Rwandan government in response to the 1994 genocide. Within these villages, survivors of the genocide live alongside repentant ex-perpetrators, promoting coexistence and healing.

2024 marks the 30th observance of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, one of the darkest chapters in human history. More than one million people – overwhelmingly Tutsi, but also Hutu and others who opposed the genocide – were systematically killed in less than three months.
An anti-war protest rally for Ukraine is held outside the UN Headquarters, as the Security Council meet calling for a General Assembly Emergency Session on Ukraine.

Headline Fact-Finding Missions to Iraq
Caption Description In view of the extraordinary dimensions of the human tragedy unfolding in the region, Secretary- General Javier Perez de Cueller dispatched two UN fact-finding missions to Iraq. Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, his Executive Delegate for the United Nations Humanitarian Programme for Iraq, Kuwait and the Iraq/Iran and Iraq/Turkey border areas, is leading an inter- agency team in Baghdad which will mobilize the collective efforts of the UN system. Accompanying Aga Khan are officials from the UN Development Programme (UNDP), UN high Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), World Food Programme (WFP), World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). Another team, lead by the Secretary- General's Personal Representative, Ambassador Erik Suy, is traveling to the border regions of northern and southern Iraq to assess the situation.
