Headline Port of Dakar

Caption Description Dakar is the principal port of Senegal, serving land-locked Mali as well. It has also been an important bunkering port for ships using South Atlantic trade routes. Senegal and Mali are presently engaged in a joint project (under the auspices of the Dakar Port Authority) to improve the Port facilities -- including extension of piers and reconstruction of quay walls to improve berthing capacity and cargo-handling efficiency and the dredging of various areas in the Port to provide better access to the quays. The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) is assisting this project by means of a loan which will apply to foreign exchange costs.

Seen here is a partial view of the Port of Dakar, Senegal, where extension and development of shipping facilities is being undertaken by the Government.
