2024 marks the 30th observance of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, one of the darkest chapters in human history. More than one million people – overwhelmingly Tutsi, but also Hutu and others who opposed the genocide – were systematically killed in less than three months.

Sheep graze on the lawn of the Palais des Nations, the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, as part of an environmentally-friendly tradition held every year in October and November. The sheep's grazing allows for the lawn to be naturally cut and for other organic maintenance work to be done.

Headline Urban Renewal and Housing Development in Singapore
Caption Description Singapore’s land area is only 224 square miles and rapid economic growth creates problems in housing, transportation, and industrial planning.  The population is expected to reach 4 millions by 1990.  The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) assists Singapore with urban development and the services of UN planners and urban renewal experts.  The demolition of decaying buildings is under way, and modern housing units and community facilities are changing the traditional facade of the new Republic.
