Cambodia complained that since 1949 Thailand had persisted in the occupation of a portion of Cambodian territory where there are the ruins of a holy monastery, the Temple of Preah Vihear. In its judgment on the merits, the International Court of Justice found that the Temple was situated on Cambodian Territory.

The Court ruled that, in compliance with its obligations under the Convention Against Torture, Senegal must prosecute or extradite former Chadian President Hissène Habré.  
This session took place, exceptionally, in the Japanese Room of the Peace Palace. The ICJ’s role is to settle, in accordance with international law, legal disputes submitted to it by States (its Judgments are final and binding) and to give advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by authorized UN organs and agencies. The General Assembly received a draft resolution asking the Assembly to call again for the early convening of the Geneva Peace Conference on the Middle East under the auspices of the UN and "with the participation on an equal footing of all parties concerned, including the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)".

The United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) observes the maintenance in Palestine of the cease fire, and assists the parties to the armistice agreements in the supervision of the application and observance of the terms of those agreements. A corps of UN Military Observers (UNMO) is available to assist in investigating any complaints.
By agreement between Israel and Jordan, an UN-escorted convoy carrying food, other necessities, and exchange personnel to the Israeli humanitarian and cultural institutions on Mount Scopus, leaves Mandelbaum Square every two week. Manifests are tiled with the United Nations and with Jordanian authorities. Before departure the contents of the convoy are examined by personnel of the UN Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in the presence of both Jordanian and Israeli authorities.

Headline Military Working Group Signs Disengagement Map and Statement: Ends Work 
Caption Description The Military Working group of the Peace Conference on the Middle East, meeting in the United Nations tent at Kilometre 101 on the Cairo-Suez road, today ended its work and disengagement will start on 25 January. At 1123 hours GMT today the head of the Israeli delegation, Lt. Gen. David Elazar, and the head of the Egyptian delegation Maj. Gen. Mohamed Abdul Ghany El-Gamasy, signed a map entitled ""Plan of Separation of Forces"" which is annexed to the agreement on disengagement. The Commander of the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) Lt. Gen. Ensio Siilasvuo also signed the map, which contains the timing of phases and actions to be performed by Israeli and Egyptian armed forces and UNEF in each phase. The map was signed in three copies, one for each signatory. After the signing the UNEF Commander read the text of the statement agreed to by the parties, which deals with matters not covered by the map.
