Secretary-General Awards UN Peace Medals to “Bee Gees”
Caption Description
Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim today awarded United Nations Peace Medals to a group of popular Australian singers named “Bee Gees” at a ceremony held at the United Nations Headquarters on 16 May. The group is due to produce a record entitled “Music for UNICEF”, the proceeds of which will be donated to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). In aid of UNICEF and as part of the “Year of the Child – 1979” celebrations, the group will also stage a concert in the General Assembly Hall in January 1979, which will be hosted by the prominent British television personality, David Frost. The ninety-minute programme will be televised by the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) and carried live via satellite to all the continents.
