Headline Houseboat for Senegal River Project
Caption Description A 54-foot fibre glass houseboat, built in the United States and fitted with diesel engines from the United Kingdom, has arrived in Senegal for use in a United Nations-aided project calling for navigability and port studies on the Senegal River. The Project is one of four regional undertakings in which the Governments of Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, and Senegal, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), are pooling efforts to make maximum use of the Senegal River's potential.
The houseboat is seen here aboard the SS Delta Argentina shortly after its arrival in Dakar, Senegal, from New Orleans, USA. Yven Laconte, Administrative Officer, Senegal River Project; (white shirt); Christian T. Atchou, Assistant Regional Representatives for UNDP, Senegal; (centre); and Mr. S.A. Chedid, Officer-in-Charge, UN Information Centre, Dakar (far right); inspect the craft prior to its off-loading. [June 1969]
