Gift of Pakistan to the Untied Nations
Caption Description
Three paintings by Pakistani artist Chugtai were donated to the United Nations by Pakistan in 1954. Chugtai, who is considered a direct descendant of the old masters of Muslim miniature painting, works using a characteristic flat wash technique, with care for linear arabesques. His lines show a clear relationship to the art of calligraphy central in the art of Islamic and oriental tradition.
A view of one of Chugtai’s paintings.
