Caption Description The contribution by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to the second Development Decade, commodity pricing policies, access to markets, disposal of surpluses, and the establishment of a preferential tariff treatment for the industrial exports of developing countries are among the main items on the agenda of the Trade and Development Board, which opened its eighth session in Geneva today. The session is scheduled to last for about three weeks. At the request of the Group of 77 developing countries, a group open to representatives of all UNCTAD members (135) will convene, also in Geneva, on 23 January, on the basis of an earlier Board recommendation, to consider the role of UNCTAD in the second Development Decade. The session, which was opened by the outgoing President, Jaroslav Kohout (Czechoslovakia), elected K.B. Asante (Ghana) as President.
