Secretary-General Visits Barbados
Caption Description
Secretary-General António Guterres visits Barbados during 2 - 4 October, to take part in the opening ceremony of the fifteenth United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, known as UNCTAD15. During the visit the Secretary-General also saw first-hand the impacts of climate change in Barbados. Accompanied by Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, the Secretary-General visited an area impacted by sea-level rise, coastal erosion and land slippage, and heard about the efforts being undertaken by the Government of Barbados to address these challenges.
The Secretary-General and Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, meet with a group of young people from Barbados who are working on innovative solutions to the world’s great challenges, ranging from climate action to COVID-19 recovery.
Pictured is Maria speaking about learning and educating people through her YouTube Channel on climate change and being environmentally conscious.
