Headline Ghana Trains Community Health Nurses

Caption Description The health services of Ghana today are reaching into the most remote parts of the country through the special corps of community health nurses assigned to cover rural health centres and areas. A training school for community health nurses was opened by the government in March 1962 with the help of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in order to create a nursing service that would be responsible primarily for rural health programmes.
Home visiting is a vital part of the community health nurse's work. Here, trainees embark on a UNICEF van to visit outlying areas and attend to patients.
