Civilian Life Revives in Korea
Caption Description
Kim Kan Nan, wife of Lee Soo Nam, 48-year-old lower middle class farmer, serving rice at breakfast, the family's largest meal of the day. The meal starts with soup and includes rice, egg plant, radish, radish leaves and beans. In accordance with Korean custom, the men eat at separate tables from the women. Lee Soo Nam's forbears have farmed this land for seven generations. At present he farms half of it and rents the other half. He had an ox and cart, but both were taken by the North Korean Army. One of his buildings was wrecked by artillery fire. This family evacuated their home and lived in the hills while fighting was in progress on their land in Mi A Ri Village near Seoul.
