Headline Aftermath of the War in Korea
Caption Description To meet the urgent need for food in the devastated cities of Korea, the Unified Command rushed thousands of tons of rice from Japan for free distribution to the needy. These supplies represented a first installment of the rice promised by the Phillipine Republic and Thailand as their contribution to the United Nations' effort in Korea.
Mr. C. Hart Schaaf, Deputy Executive Secretary of the U.N. Ecoomic Commission for Asia and the Far East and Special Adviser on Civilian Relief in Korea (right) and Mr. Uit D. Boggard of the Netherlands, lent by the IRO for relief work in Korea. They are supervising rice distribution in Seoul. [October, 1950]
