Headline
Petroleum in Gabon
Caption Description
In 1956, after 15 years of exploration, oil was struck by the Societe des Petroles de l'Afrique Equatoriale (SPAFE) at Ozouri and Pointe-Clairette near Port-Gentil. The company has discovered other deposits and now has six producing fields and in 1960, 800,000 tons were produced. SPAFE also supplies the Port-Gentil Electric Company with natural gas. A United Nations Technical Assistance expert has been advising the Government in further geological exploration and the development of mineral resources.
Here, a view of the petroleum pumping and filtering plant at Port Lopez.
