Assembly Observes Minute of Silence in Tribute to Sir Winston Churchill
Caption Description
The General Assembly, at its meeting this morning, observed a minute of silence in tribute to Sir Winston Churchill, after hearing statements made in tribute to his memory by Secretary-General U Thant and the President of the Assembly, Alex Quaison-Sackey (Ghana). The Assembly then adjourned, as a mark of respect to Sir Winston's memory, until 3 p.m. today, when the general debate will continue with statements by the representatives of Chad, Turkey and Afghanistan.
Ambassador Alex Quaison-Sackey is seen addressing the Assembly. At left is Secretary-General U Thant and at right is Mr. C.V. Narasimhan, Under-Secretary for General Assembly Affairs and Chef de Cabinet.
