Soil and Water Resources Survey in Togo
Caption Description
Despite great differences in climate and settlement in northern and southern Togo, there are some similarities in the problems faced by the two parts of the country. There is an imbalance between the highlands, where the soil is becoming depleted, and the valleys, where there is little farming because of the adverse stream-flow conditions. The Government, assisted by the United Nations Special Fund and its Executing Agency, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), has undertaken a soil and water resources survey, which is expected to lead to an improvement of agricultural conditions in the country's two areas.
Looking at a soil sample is FAO Project Manager, Mr. G. Millette, (Canada), and a member of the survey team.
