Mexico Accedes to Anti-Apartheid Convention
Caption Description
Mexico's instruments of accession to the International Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid were received today by the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs. The anti- apartheid Convention, which came into force 18 July 1976, provides that international responsibility for the crime of apartheid shall apply to individuals, members of organizations and institutions, and representatives of a State, whether residing in the State in which the acts are perpetrated or elsewhere. Persons charged can be tried by any State party to the Convention. The parties are required to report periodically to a special three-member group of the Commission on Human Rights on the measures they take to implement the Convention.
