Caption Description The new Atlantic Railroad in Colombia links Bogotá, the capital, with the cities on the Atlantic coast of the country. The new rail link, which is scheduled to be formally inaugurated at the end of this month, will provide direct connections between Bogotá and Santa Marta, the northernmost coastal city on the Atlantic Ocean some 967 kilometers away and which will, in turn, be linked with the Pacific Ocean port of Buenaventura, about 1,481 kilometers to the southwest. The International Bank loaned some $38.5 million to meet the foreign exchange requirements of this project.

Photograph shows a father and his two sons on a pier at Puerto Berrio as they watched the departure of a river steamer on which members of their family are travelling. Puerto Berrio is a river and railroad terminus on the Magdalena River.
